Part 5 of the thread The shake shelf

THE SHORT VERSION4 points
  • Base is 2 scoops vanilla protein and about 1 cup milk.
  • The animal cookie shake is literally 2 cookies blended in.
  • Banana cream pie gets its body from half a banana, yogurt and pudding mix.
  • Apple pie uses half an apple, skin on or off. Blend until it's gone.
THE RECIPE · COOKIE AND PIE PROTEIN SHAKES

Ingredients

The base

Frosted animal cookie

Sugar cookie

Banana cream pie

Apple pie

You'll need

  • Blender
  • Knife and cutting board
  • Measuring cups and spoons

Directions

Every shake

  1. Put the protein powder, milk and that flavor's add-ins in the blender.
  2. Blend on high until smooth. Add ice last if you want it thicker.
  3. Pour, top it, and drink it right away.

Apple pie

  1. Core the apple first; the seeds and stem don't blend well.
  2. Blend until no apple pieces are left, a bit longer than the others.

Sugar cookie

  1. With only 1/3 cup milk it's thick. Blend in short bursts, then top with whipped cream and more sprinkles.
Notes Best fresh; if it has to sit, refrigerate briefly and re-blend. A frozen banana makes the banana cream pie colder and thicker without ice. Roughly 250 to 285 calories and 50 g protein per shake, give or take.

Cookies and pie are the dessert end of the shake shelf. Two of these are honest about it: the animal cookie shake just puts actual cookies in the blender. The pie shakes are a little sneakier, getting there with fruit, spice and a spoonful of sugar-free pudding mixThe dry powder from a box of instant pudding, used by the teaspoon. It adds flavor and a bit of starch that thickens yogurt or cottage cheese into a real pudding texture.More: Banana Cream Pie Cup.

The frosted animal cookie version has one add-in: two cookies. The frosting and sprinkles tint the shake and the cookie crumbs thicken it a bit. Any cookie works, which makes this a good way to use the last broken ones at the bottom of the bag. The sugar cookie shake fakes the same thing with sprinkles and whipped cream and runs on just a third of a cup of milk, so it's thick.

Tip

Drop the cookies in last, on top of everything else, and pulse a couple of times before a full blend. That way you get a few crumbs in every sip instead of cookie paste stuck under the blade.

Pie filling, no oven

For the banana cream pie, the half banana brings sweetness and body, the yogurt or cottage cheese makes it creamy, and a teaspoon of sugar-free pudding mix thickens it into something close to pie filling. Vanilla wafers on top are the crust. The Banana Cream Pie Cup is the spoonable cousin if you want it thicker still.

Apple pie is simpler: half an apple, cored, and cinnamon or apple pumpkin pie spiceA ready-made blend of warm spices, usually cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger and cloves. Cinnamon on its own is a fine stand-in.More: Protein Coffee: Sugar Cookie Cold Brew and PSL Cold Foam. Leave the skin on if you want; it disappears if you blend long enough. The Apple Pie Muffin uses the same spice idea as a warm mug cakeA single serving of cake batter cooked right in a mug or bowl in the microwave, usually in a minute or two. It won't brown like an oven cake, but it's done before you could preheat one.More: Protein Blueberry Muffins, Baked or Microwaved.

Try this

A caramel protein powder instead of vanilla makes the apple pie taste closer to caramel apple.
