EXPLORE THE NOTEBOOK
Notes from the command line, the workbench, and the vintage computer shelf.
My lists of PlayStation games that suit an arcade cabinet or a fight stick, generation by generation, from Tekken 3 and Einhander to Garou and Ikaruga-era shooters, plus the emulator and setup notes for each.
Console field guide · Note 9 ↗Install Bun if it's missing, install the open-source Grok CLI globally, and save your xAI API key as a user environment variable from a hidden prompt instead of a line in a script.
PowerShell craft · Note 8 ↗How to add an MCP server to Claude Code or Claude Desktop, where the config actually lives, and the short checklist I run when a server won't show up.
Building with Claude and MCP · Note 1 ↗Shrink a folder of photos or screenshots to WebP with cwebp or NConvert, keep the originals unless you say otherwise, and see how much each file saved.
File wrangling · Note 7 ↗Check every book and comic file's real format from its first few bytes, rename the ones that lie, find identical copies by hash, and file whatever is loose in the library root.
Keeping a media library tidy · Note 1 ↗The folder layout, the one config file, and the handful of checks I want in a Python project before the first real line of code. Plus where my notes had fallen behind the tools.
Dev habits for a team of one · Note 1 ↗Find the servicing packages behind a KB number, including cumulative updates that hide it, remove them with DISM, keep a transcript, and optionally hide the update so it doesn't come straight back.
Windows Update, untangled · Note 10 ↗A realistic look at modifying arcade game ROMs, from changing text in a hex editor to rewriting game logic in assembly, with the tools, the friendliest hardware to learn on and a sensible first project.
The emulation bench · Note 7 ↗Write the folders you want as an indented outline, or paste the output of tree, and create the whole structure in one go without moving a single file.
File wrangling · Note 6 ↗A small Windows Forms pop-up that appears at logon when a PC has been up for more than a week, with a Later button and a Restart now button that asks before it does anything.
Spring cleaning for Windows PCs · Note 8 ↗One script that dumps a WordPress database and zips the site files into a dated folder, with the password kept off the command line and a -WhatIf that really works.
The WordPress toolbox · Note 3 ↗My list for loading a Windows 98 machine with the software, games, sounds and screensavers of 1998 to 2001, plus the DOS-era diagnostic kit I'd keep beside it.
The retro workbench · Note 13 ↗
