In 2023 the narrator's uncle, dying of cancer, confesses that he discovered time travel, tried to fix history, and made it worse. Somewhere around 2000, reality split, and everyone has been living in the worst timeline ever since. The fix, he says, is to go back to 1997, three years before the break.
So the narrator takes the journals and the machine and goes, into a world of the early internet and the first cell phones. Not everyone on the other side wants it fixed. Someone likes the broken timeline just fine.
Heads up: this one deals with A family member's terminal illness.
- A prologue, eight chapters and an epilogue.
- Set mostly between 1997 and 2000, with the era's technology and its limits done right.
- Tagline: "To save the future, go back to 1997."
- Still to decide: a name for the hero, a name for the villain, and what actually broke in 2000.
